The 2024 NWCA All-Star Classic presented by Nike Wrestling is Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 7:00 pm (ET) in Rec Hall at Penn State.

This event can be viewed only on FloWrestling and will feature 10 highly ranked Division I folkstyle matchups with five cross-divisional women’s freestyle matches.

124 Pounds: Amani Jones, North Central (NCAA) vs Maya Davis, Grand View (NAIA)

Jones broke through in a big way at the 2024 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships. She finished fifth and second the previous two seasons before winning the 123-pound title as a junior.

Her run to the finals included three falls and a 13-4 decision. Jones defeated King true freshman Virginia Foard in the finals, 3-1. 

The Locust Grove, Georgia, native uses low-level shots, and she can snag your ankle at any moment. Jones likes to shoot from space and create separation when she can. She is already a 2023 U20 World bronze medalist and will represent the United States at the 2024 U23 World Championships.

Davis is one of three national finalists in program history, and she could become the first champion. She’s arguably the best Grand View women’s freestyle wrestler with two seasons of eligibility. 

She had a good 2024 NAIA tournament run as the three-seed, reaching the finals with a 9-0 win over second-seeded Joanna Vanderwood in the semis. Davis fell to Doane’s Cristelle Rodriguez — one of the top pound-for-pound wrestlers in the country. 

The game plan is simple for each wrestler.

Jones is among the best low-level attackers in the country. She needs to shoot from space and find her takedown game early.

Davis needs to force the action and control the tie. She can score on go-behinds if she can get Jones to take errant shots. The more she’s in an underhook or two-on-one, the higher her success rate.
